Gregg Schanck & Michael Candullo enter their third seasons with the Vipers and 2nd as coaches. Gregg played 4 years of Baseball at SUNY Oneonta and is the President of Norwood Softball. Coach Gregg still tries to live through his prime playing days by playing in a 40+ baseball league.
Coach Candullo played ball at St. Joes and has been one of our most committed coaches in teaching the Viper Way and expanding this group of girls.
Lauren Brown joins our 12U staff this year as an Associate Head Coach. Lauren was an All County pitcher at River Dell and pitched at both Cortland and TCNJ. She is the Asst Varsity Coach at Tenafly HS and prior to that held the same post for River Dell. Lauren just earned her degree in Education at TCNJ and is pursuing her Masters.
Jim Gilligan enters his second year with the Vipers and his first year as a Head Coach. We started preparing Jim for this role last year as his daughter played with us as a 9 year old. Jim has seamlessly stepped in as a Head Coach and is doing an amazing job.
Jim is a leader in the Dumont softball program and travel teams, so his competitive and teaching styles blend in perfectly with the Vipers.
He fully understands the level, our philosophy and program...the kids & parents adore him.
Jim is assisted by Coach Dino Eliopoulos, Coach Dino is a professional High School Coach who has won league championships and competed deep into state tournaments with Midland Park High School. Our girls and we are so fortunate to have him. We look forward to having this tandem for years to come.
Lee Ehlerman is the pilot for our 14U group in 2021/22. We have known Lee for many years and not sure if any of our coaches ever beat his teams. Among his many accomplishments are 4x Midland Park summer League Champ at 14u & Ugals. 17u Summer League Champ. Most impressive is that he was the Mahwah Softball Commissioner for 10 years and built largely what is now the current model for town travel teams. He also started and ran Mahwah Memorial Weekend Tournament for 10 years. His "Club" experience includes 2016 NJ Sparks 12u, 2017 North Jersey Rangers 14u, 2018 North Jersey Rangers 14 u 5th place at Nationals in Maryland, 2019 North Jersey Rangers 14u, 25th Nationals on Maryland & 2020 -2021 NJ Fire 10u, 12u & 14u.
Laura Germano is a graduate of Park Ridge HS and Ramapo College and begins her 3rd year with this group of girls. Coach Laura started/played 3 HS sports and is a member of the 50+ goal club in soccer, 1,000 point club in basketball and an All-County shortstop in softball. Laura started and played shortstop for 4 years at Ramapo College and earned All-NCAA Tournament honors (was also recruited to play on the basketball team). She is a member of the Park Ridge Hall of Fame.
Best athlete in her family by far except for hitting, where she ranks 2nd.
Laura has coached volleyball, basketball and softball at Park Ridge HS, was an asst. softball coach at Dominican College and is a certified cross trainer instructor. She is the Frosh Volleyball & Varsity Softball Coach for Cresskill HS. Laura has coached with us since 2015.
Laura is assisted by Mark Plescia. Mark runs the Norwood Softball Program and his contributions to the Vipers are immeasurable.
Our Head Coaches for our 18U Black team are Steve Olshalsky and Sheila Serafin
Steve is a leader in the Ramsey Softball Organization, played baseball at WPU & coached softball at the college level. Steve has been with this core group since they were first year 12's and has done an exemplary job. Both his daughters play in the program
Sheila Goulding- Serafin played college softball and basketball at St. Thomas Aquinas College. In softball she was both an infielder and outfielder and has a great feel and vision of the game. She has over a decade coaching youth rec, Bergen County Travel and High School (Cresskill) teams. A long time friend of the Vipers and many of our founding players, we have known Sheila from "across the dugouts" for many years and have always admired and respected the way she coaches her teams, treats her players and respects the game. We are very lucky to have her. She enters her third season with this core group of Vipers.
Both are gifted communicators and professional educators. Great examples for these girls who both offer different skill sets.
Both enter their 5th year with the Vipers.
Coach Bob is assisted by Coach Josh Lont and are entering their 8th year together. Bob has a deep history in the Old Tappan program and founded the Vipers, while Josh led the Wyckoff Softball Program for 6 years and was an Asst. Coach for the Ramapo HS team in 2019. No Viper team or teams have won more games or events than these two coaches.
